Shkodra is one of the 12 Regions centers of Albania. This Regions consists of three districts: Shkodra District, Malesia e Madhe District and Puka District. Shkodra District consists of two municipalities and 15 communes.
The City of Shkodra is the administrative, business and cultural center of the Region
The city is located in Northwest Albania . The geographical coordinates are 19º 30' 42' of Latitude and 45º 03' 05' of Longitude.
To the north and west of the city lies Lake Shkodra, from which the River Buna (44 km long) flows south into the Adriatic.
The lower part of the river constitutes a border with Montenegro.
To the north and northwest lie the fields of Upper Shkodra, to the north and east of which the Albanian Alps begin.
In the opposite direction, about 30 km to the southwest of the city, lies Velipoja, a popular beach resort on the Adriatic coast.
