A glimpse of the Brindisi countryside: vines, olive trees and wheat: a synthesis of the agricultural landscape with its salient natural aspects represented by a centuries old carob tree, limestone boulders and dry-stone wall. But the central element of this corner of Apulia is the theme of water, evoked by the Roman well enveloped by a pergola of wisteria, a place for brief refreshment and cooling pauses from work on the land. The idea of a landscape garden for this year’s event grew out of the now widespread conviction that aspects of the rural landscape should be reintroduced into towns, which are increasingly losing their identities and origins.
