Adriatic in Bloom - Adriatic cities in Bloom
The most important event was the initiative “Adriatic in bloom”, which took place in Cervia form April to September 2007.The event was based on outdoor gardens set up by the partner cities, the cities of the Adriatic and the participating cities during the spring, which were kept on exhibition until the following autumn in the squares, roundabouts and boulevards of the Municipality of Cervia.
It was as a pilot workshop as well as an added value to the image of Cervia and all the other cities involved in the initiative. The participants worked to create a “garden” dedicated to their own cities, showing their expertise in the strategic field of urban green areas.
Another important aspect has been the exchange of experiences and know-how between the participants, with the introduction of new techniques related to urban green areas. The event actually favoured the development of contacts and relations among the participants, which is one of the most important objectives of the project, i.e. promote dialogue and the culture of peace through environment and nature.
The participating cities (partners, Adriatic cities, Italian and foreign cities) prepared their gardens from April to May. In particular, partner cities wanted to leave a tangible sign of their heritage by creating special and unique areas illustrated below.
The inauguration and prize-awarding ceremony took place in Cervia on May 26th. In the morning the ceremony with the participation of the authorities of all participating cities, the partners, the Adriatic cities in bloom and all the Italian and European cities involved in the event. In the evening the outdoor ceremony took place in Piazza Garibaldi, in the historic centre of Cervia, in a unique scenery.
